This coin was released as part of the Royal Australian Mint's popular Gold Kangaroo collectors series. The reverse design features two allied rock wallaby's with the legend TEN DOLLARS 1/10 oz. 9999 Au. The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2011.

The Rock-wallaby is an agile animal that can be found in habitats featuring rocky and steep terrain where they can hide during the daytime. The genus is quite diverse with several species that include the yellow-footed, allied and black-flanked rock-wallaby. These species are surprisingly distinct in appearance, size and conservation status. One of the most widespread species is the Brush-tailed rock-wallaby which can be found in southeastern Australia.
