The Hong Kong Ten Cent coin issued during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II featured the Queens portrait by Raphael Maklouf on the obverse. The legend around the perimeter reads QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND. The reverse shows Chinese symbols of the denomination, date and country interspersed with the legend HONG KONG TEN CENTS.
Hong Kong was ceded to Great Britain, by China, in 1842, at the conclusion of the first Opium Wars. It was later in 1898, that China handed a 99 year lease to Great Britain for Hong Kong. On 1st July, 1997, the former British colony was handed back to the Peoples Republic of China.
